What to watch for
Eight signs worth a call.
A safety switch that keeps tripping
It is doing its job, cutting the power because something is wrong. Resetting it again and again isn't a fix. Get the cause found.
Lights that flicker or dim
Especially when a big appliance kicks in. It is often a loose connection or a circuit under strain.
Warm or marked power points
A power point or switch that feels warm, smells hot or has brown marks needs looking at soon.
Yellowed or loose switches
Brittle, yellowed plates are usually as old as the wiring behind them. Loose ones were never fixed properly.
Ceramic fuses in the meter box
If your board still has old rewireable fuses, it is due for a check and probably an upgrade.
Test your safety switches
Press the test button on your safety switches every few months. If one doesn't trip, call us.
Smoke alarms that are old or silent
Test them regularly, and replace any alarm that has passed its expiry date.
Buzzing or crackling
From a switch, a power point or the switchboard. Turn that circuit off at the board if it is safe to, and call us.
